  • Surveen Chawla Reacts To Deepika Padukone’s Eight-Hour Work Demand: “It’s Simply The Need-And So Be It”

Deepika Padukone’s reported eight-hour work demand, which became a point of contention with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, triggered reactions from several Bollywood celebrities. Surveen Chawla is the latest actor to back Deepika as she appealed for a structural change in the film industry. In a recent interview with ETimes, Surveen argued that professional commitments shouldn’t be executed at the cost of their personal life.

    What’s Happening

Surveen Chawla weighed in on the debate over eight-hour work demand that Deepika Padukone reportedly put across after the birth of her daughter Dua.

Speaking to ETimes, Surveen said the industry needs to be become “more conducive” for mothers, especially new mothers. “Being a new mother does come with a fair bit of restriction; there’s a lot to cater to when it comes to the child. We need to be mindful of that and try to support or accommodate them in a way that works for both the makers and the actor.

“I don’t think it’s something that should be questioned. I don’t even want to entertain why that happened or why it should happen. It’s simply the need-and so be it,” she said.

Surveen also said long work hours in the industry often take a toll on the actors’ personal lives.

“You can’t really take away… How do I put it? I don’t think it’s fair to take away someone’s personal passion just because they’re a mother and might not be able to give enough time. In general too, this is the only industry with such extreme working hours.

“When we’re on shoot, it’s crazy… You’re gone for too long. There are days when you don’t see your family, your partner, your children, your relatives. And I don’t think that’s fair,” she added.

Drawing parallels with other professions, the actor argued boundaries should be set not only for working mothers, but also for everyone in the industry.

  • Thug Life Box Office Collection Day 7: Kamal Haasan’s Film Struggles, Mints Rs 42 Crore In Week 1

Kamal Haasan’s Thug Life has witnessed a dip at the Indian box office. The Mani Ratnam film has minted Rs 1.25 crore on day 7, June 11.

With this, the total collection of Thug Life stands at Rs 42.25 crore, reported Sacnilk

The film, which was released on June 5, faced tough competition from Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 5 at the box office.

Thug Life saw an “overall 15.57% Tamil Occupancy,” the report added. The film has been backed by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies.

Trisha Krishnan, T.R. Silambarasan, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nassar, Ali Fazal, and Mahesh Manjrekar are also part of the film.

Kamal Haasan collaborated with Main Ratnam after 38 years for Thug Life. They last film together was Nayakan in 1987.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter India,  Kamal Haasan opened up about his admiration for Mani Ratnam.

“We both wrote the lm together. When I say we wrote it together, it’s not the noise of two pens scribbling together. I nished what I perceived would be a good lm to make. I nished a script, and it was called ‘Amar Hai’, which is a pun. A man who is believed to be dead is not dead. His name is ‘Amar’, and that is the problem. I had etched it, and then Mani took it as an idea and went on to embellish it,” he said.

Film critic Saibal Chatterjee, in his NDTV review, gave Thug Life 2 stars. He said. “Thug Life isn’t quite the kind of film that you expect to be a huge disappointment. In an era in which scepticism, even trepidation, precedes the decision to watch a movie that has blockbuster aspirations, a Mani Ratnam movie, no matter what genre it belongs to, is usually an exception. It generates both anticipation and excitement.”

When inquired about Tulip Siddiq’s reported letter seeking audience with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during his upcoming London visit, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said the government has not yet received any such letter. “We cannot comment on something we have not seen,” he said.

Siddiq, who is related to former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been cleared of any wrongdoing by the adviser on ministerial standards, Laurie Magnus, but had to resign as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and city minister over the allegations.

During the visit, King Charles III will formally confer the prestigious “Harmony Award 2025” on Muhammad Yunus, in a ceremony that will take place at St James’s Palace in London on June 12, for his efforts to promote peace, sustainability and harmony between people and the environment.

Yunus has been trying to promote the strategic importance of the Chittagong Port where there are major investments planned, including Chinese investments.
